Legislative Updates


Effective January 1, 2012, California will also limit the use of consumer credit reports for applicant screening and other employment purposes (October 2011).

Effective October 1, 2011, Connecticut joins Maryland, Illinois, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington in prohibiting employers from requiring employees to consent to a credit check as a condition of employment (August 2011).

Philadelphia Ban the Box Legislation Goes Into Effect July 12, 2011 (May 2011): The first section of this new law prohibits employers from making an inquiry about, requiring a person to disclose, or taking adverse action based on any arrest or criminal accusation that is not still pending and did not result in a conviction.

Effective October 1, 2011, Maryland to Limit the Use of Credit Reports in Making Employment Decisions (April 2011)

DOT to implement amended provisions to drug testing procedures effective October 1, 2010. DOT drug screens will now test for the presence of Ecstasy (MDMA) and will also lower cutoff criteria for cocaine and amphetamines. (September 2010)
