New York State legislated some significant changes to how publicly available court records can be accessed. While previously, individual county searches could be accessed through County Clerks, changes to the state statute now preclude the Office of Court Administration (OCA) from providing county level searches. Access is now available only via a statewide search which the OCA claims includes records from all 62 New York Counties. The OCA has levied a $55.00 access fee for this search. This legislation does not explicitly eliminate the County Clerks from permitting access to their specific records. However, the following NY counties no longer offer a county level criminal search: Allegany, Bronx, Cayuga, Cortland, Hamilton, Kings, Nassau, New York, Orleans, Queens, and Richmond. The following counties allow a county level criminal search but charge a $16.00 access fee: Dutchess, Niagara, Orange, Oswego, Putnam, Renselaer, Rockland, Suffolk, and Westchester.
